Even if you follow all of the above precautions, there is still a chance of fire. To increase your odds of escaping safely, be sure your home has working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on every floor.
Locate smoke alarms near or on the ceiling and away from corners in all major rooms of the house.
Install carbon monoxide detectors in bedrooms and rooms with wood or gas fired appliances.
Test alarms monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.
Clean your alarms periodically by vacuuming out any dust that has accumulated or blowing it out using canned air.
Sensors on smoke detectors can fail over time, so replace alarms after ten years of use.
Taking these precautions will help ensure a safe and happy holiday season this year.

Home tips.
Keep your home air conditioning unit running efficiently. The procedures for home maintenance of a central air conditioning are very similar to the maintenance for window units, but the parts may be more difficult to access. Most owner manuals contain a great deal of specific details about maintaining your air conditioner.Home
Home tips.
Before each cooling season, it is recommended that you get a professional tune-up on your central air conditioner. This is the biggest step you can take to prevent major malfunctions in your AC unit.
Probably the most important step that can be done by a homeowner is to clean or replace the air filter every month. Electrostatic filters are the best. Do not run the unit with the filter removed. Check your owner's manual for filter cleaning procedure. Let a filter you’ve washed dry completely before reinstalling it.
Every month, especially during the summer months, remove any leaves or debris from your outdoor condenser unit.
Help keep your outdoor condenser fan running efficiently by cleaning the fan blades and the coils before each cooling season. (Always turn off the power before attempting anything other than superficial cleaning). Remove the fan grill and the fan blades. Gently brush off debris from the blades. Then uncover the condenser coils and gently brush the dirty side. Then hose water from inside the unit, using plastic bags to protect the motor and other components. Also check the base pan (under the unit) and remove any debris that has accumulated there as well.
